As <strong>Gavin<\/strong> correctly pointed out in the comments, the Greenland data was a poor choice for purposes of illustration, because the presence of dust and other contaminants makes the Greenland CO<sub>2<\/sub> record unreliable.  This was also noted in the paper by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/paleo\/taylor\/indermuehle99nat.pdf\">Indermuhle <em>et al.,<\/em><\/a> so I can only plead carelessness.<br \/>\nAntarctic data has been substituted and the discussion revised.
